Why does bad grammar get on my nerves so much?

It's simple - many people just don't care. They are ignorant, or feel they are being "cool". You would not believe how many times I have received "thumbs down" votes on Answers for correcting grammar and spelling, and I only do it on sarcastic posts. On serious ones, I let it slide.
