Title of a movie about an injured man taken in by a woman & her 2 boys. He coaches the older's little league.

I was in China a couple weeks ago, watching HBO. There was a movie on about a man who had a broken foot/leg. He was taken in by a woman and her two sons. Their father ended up being a soldier that was either a POW/MIA/thought dead. The man helps out with the older boy's little league team. They end up winning and the coach offers the man a job. He decides to say no and ends up leaving. One of the boys' name was Tom, I think. There was also a scene with the little boy and a dog. The dog turned into like star particles or something.
