Why do people call us caucasian or white?

i personally come from german and french descent(with a little african mixed in like 1/15) and some czech and a little irish(i know a lot bahaha) but seriously? why am i white? i don't get it. like where did the term caucasian come from? im so confused. my skin however is very white and i have blond hair and blue eyes naturally.
