Christians I have a question?

My pastor said when asking god to save you, the words mean nothing its all about your heart that matters so can i choose my own words? Can i go something like this, Dear Jesus, I know im a sinner and in need of your forgiveness plz forgive me and make me what you wanted me to be, thank you in jesus name amen.
